As for me, I will declare this forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob. Psalm 75:9 NIV
I can feel the desert of sand burning my feet as I sprint across the eternity of it. Racing my little sister and diving into the deep sea of blue that lies calmly beyond, every visit to the ocean is treasured when you’ve grown up living in a country town five hours away from the nearest coastline. The ocean has always evoked curiosity from within me. In this case, it inspired the first song I recorded and the first song on this album.
Ships was written quite early on during my song writing journey. When my producer Anthony heard this song, he was immediately drawn to it. He created a backing for it and showed it to me the next day.
Each musical element that he had added seemed familiar to me and included parts of all the music I had listened to growing up (particularly the Celtic sounding choir and the djembes). I was amazed at how the musical backing brought the song to life. The vocals were recorded within a day. Ships then quite literally inspired the rest of the album.
Ships follows a metaphorical and rhythmical journey describing many moments that we encounter throughout the different seasons of our lives. As you listen to this album, I hope it paints a picture that you connect with. A picture of a love that chose you. Ships is the first album I have written, and I am so excited to share it with you.
